The end of another busy week. Things are a bit slow on the accommodation side at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that we rest on our laurels and any suggestion that we sit outside in the sun, drinking tea are grossly over exaggerated!
I have been busy trawling through all the accommodation web pages looking for suitable places for the many lovely service users we currently have on our books. It is such a pity that so many landlords are reluctant to take a chance with housing benefit claims. I can only keep on saying that we have a very good working relationship with the Housing Benefit team in Colchester and do support our ex-clients to keep in touch and come to us with any problems. One such person came in today with a query about his housing benefit and council tax support allowance and I was able to help him out by emailing housing benefit direct with the query, thereby sorting out the problem quickly.
We have had a very successful week with the cookery club, this week it was Koftas (very spicy), pasta Bolognese; cheesy pasta; flat bread and stuffed mushrooms. Very tasty and every one did a BBC shopping challenge to find out what kind of shopper they were. Apparently I am frivolous and should stop buying shoes (never!!!!). We have also had a huge amount of eggs donated to us, so we tasked our guys to make a list of what they could make with them. The list is too long to mention here, but there were some suggestions we have never heard of.
Last night we had no volunteers to cook the dinner, so one of our service users filled the gap and created a lovely meal of chicken, rice and veg.
In all a very good week. Don’t forget we are open at the weekend. We are currently looking for volunteers, so please look at our website and send in a completed volunteer form to us.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone. Annies Fantasies Clog dancing team will be raising money for the Shelter on Sunday 14th August at First Site at 12 noon, so hope to see you there.
